From Virginia Heffermen:

1.     Overall, the biggest thing I see that would have helped better prepare me for the tech requirements in college is just simply more work. I, personally, don’t believe that through my years of K-12 I wasn’t assigned enough work to be properly equipped with all the knowledge that is required as I enter college. I am not saying I would have liked to do more work, but I believe it was needed. Another thing I believe would have helped to follow up on the more work would then be more testing. If the teachers were to eventually, near the end of my high school career, give out college level tests that would give us an idea of what to expect for the tech requirements in college.
2.     My career field is still a little hazy at the moment but I imagine that for whatever I do end up doing for the rest of my life I wont require too much technology, only because I am not a fan of most technology. I would rather work with the natural things in the world. However, for whatever I do choose I believe that I will be well prepared by what Oakland University has taught me and will finish teaching me.
3.     I feel like I write much better in a relaxed setting. I could sit down by myself and write for days if I was asked to. The reason I would have no problem with this is because it is just my computer, my thoughts and myself. I feel relaxed because there is no one sitting behind my back with a timer correcting my mistakes. It is all me, I am the ultimate decider.
4.     I think, as a teacher, I would try my hardest to inquire as much technology as I could into the daily schedule. The more technology the better equipped the students will be. No one knows exactly what technology will be like in 25 years so when preparing students who will be looking for a job in 25 years the best thing to do, as their teacher, is teach them the best you can at the most present technology.
5.     Overall, I agree with the tone of this piece. I believe that there is some amazing digital technology out there and it is only getting better and because of it we, the students, should be taught well in how to master it.

My first word daddy

Early childhood:
·      My dad reading to me books, (the grey lady and the strawberry snatcher,  rock soup book)
·      My dad was really into music
·      At an early age he got me into listening to a lot of 80s rock music
·      growing up with two older brothers they influenced me into reading because it came as a huge interest to them
·      going to school I was read to by  the teachers a lot
·      they read to me a lot of mystery and action related books
·      After being read these books, I began to really love reading books
·      Books I liked were (magic tree house and the sugar creek gang)

Growing up:

·      I slowly began not liking books as much as I did music
·      I still read books but I didn’t like to read books that I didn’t like
·      I read more mystery books and action books.
·      Books we read in school such as biographies were boring to me
·      When we started reading for learning and not for fun changed my love
·      My love then went more into music
·      I started expanding my love and knowledge of 80’s rock bands
·      My brothers are both older and they told me everything my dad told them
·      Soon I lost my love to read just about anything
I would rather listen to music than read

The Narrative and How I Compare.

Sherman Alexie grew up on the Spokane Indian Reservation. He grew up with his father, who loved to read. Since Alexie was a little boy his father would bring stacks of books home to read. Since his father loved books Alexie decided to love books too. He soon realized that most little Indian boys don’t teach themselves how to read and excel as an advanced reader as fast as he did. He started with superman comics at a young age and soon, over the years, he was reading novels. He knew that a smart Indian is a dangerous person. After many years of reading he became a writer. Despite all the books he read he was still surprised to become a writer. Alexie quoted “I refused to fail. I was smart. I was arrogant. I was lucky.” As a writer he writes mostly novels, short stories, and poems.  He still returns back to Indian villages and gives back by teaching creative writing to the children. Something that Alexie always stated through his journey of life was “I am trying to save our lives.”

I personally agree with everything that Alexie did. He was not forced to do what he did. Nearly all of the other Indian children were not on the same level as he was throughout his childhood. He chose his own path and decided on his own that he would excel as a reader and writer. With great determination he did what he set out to do from the day he started to read. I believe that this narrative compares to my life because in the process of becoming literate, much like Alexie had his father, I had my mother to help me from day one. She started me off on the right path from teaching me how to read and then told me the importance to being literate. My mother also set an example for me by going to college and pursuing a degree this relates to the narrative because Alexie’s dad sets an example for Alexie by bringing books home all the time. Overall, I compare to this narrative in many ways but none more than the pure example of determination.

My Career goal is to become an Athletic Director for a college or university. Right now I am majoring in business. My plan is to later transfer to West Virginia University to get my bachelors in sports management. Once I get to this part in my life I will need to have both great writing skills and great communication skills. If I were to become an athletic director I would need great communication skills in order to talk to co-workers at the university or when I had to get ahold of other universities to schedule games and scrimmages. As for my writing skills, they would be needed throughout the entire journey. When applying for the job and when doing paperwork on the job you would need to do it in the most professional manner.
